As we approach an exciting milestone in the creation of our new curriculum for Wales, I want to thank all those who have played a part in creating it.
Practitioners across Wales have been committed to this pioneering work for some three years. They have engaged with the latest international thinking and have had their outputs challenged by external experts; they have debated, and tested latest thinking with their colleagues.
On April 30th we will publish the result for feedback – the draft curriculum for Wales 2022. I encourage all practitioners to review it, consider it, and provide feedback before the closing date of 19th July. The graphic (below) sets out the timeline for this and next steps.

As we enter the next stage of curriculum development, I would urge all schools to engage fully with the draft materials and start to think how Curriculum for Wales 2022 can be used in their own school context
May and June will see multiple opportunities for all practitioners across Wales to engage with the draft curriculum. Regional consortia, supported by Welsh Government, are organising a series of accessible events. For any practitioner not yet involved or aware of developments, I urge you now to take advantage of one of these opportunities and I hope you come away stimulated and excited.
As we mark a significant milestone, we will now move into the phase of listening to feedback and refining the curriculum.
To support us in this important phase of work, we have established a network of quality improvement groups. These groups will be smaller than the existing pioneer working groups but will retain the excellent contribution and experience developed by practitioners. A second group of innovation schools have also been appointed and these will consider the draft Curriculum for Wales as a whole and support us during the feedback phase in evaluating the full curriculum framework.
Both groups will help us refine the curriculum, ready for the refined version to be published in January 2020.
In closing, I want to thank all practitioners across Wales for your valuable work this term. You do an amazing job. I hope you enjoy your Easter break.
Kirsty
Kirsty Williams, Minister for Education.
