Q: Why are we having education reforms?

A: The young people of today are entering a fast-changing world. Schools are having to prepare them for jobs that may not yet have been created and challenges we are yet to encounter. So we must update what we teach them and the way we teach them. Our reforms focus on higher standards of literacy and numeracy, as well as digital skills, so that we improve the knowledge and skills of our young people.

The Digital Competence Framework’s 1st Birthday.

At the NDLE conference in June, several guest speakers were heard to comment that the Welsh approach to digital competence was the envy of England. That should be a source of pride for Wales, but more importantly it shows that our children will be properly prepared for an increasingly digital world when they leave school.

In this first year it has been great to see schools being so positive about experimenting with the Framework and using the mapping tool to compare the good work they are already doing against its requirements.

Moving Forward with the Digital Competence Framework

The Digital Competence Framework is celebrating the end of the first school year since its release. Since its publication, schools across Wales have embraced the Framework, explored the skills and looked forward to a digital future. Feedback from schools has been tremendously important and the Digital Pioneers have taken on board comments and suggestions from schools in all areas and settings across Wales.
